"£750 can enable a care-leaver or 16-19 year
old to stay in education"
In the UK, many young people face significant financial barriers to
accessing and remaining in further education. Young people leaving care for instance, are one of the
most under-represented groups
in further education. Statistically it is known that care leavers are more
likely to have poor GCSE results, literacy problems and be in the judicial
system than any other group of young people.
Encouraging them to stay in education and training is a proven method of
addressing these negative social indicators.
The LRT has helped many of these young people through targeted support
provided at the right time.
"£1,000 can fund higher and further education for a learner who may
otherwise be prevented from studying"
Some learners, for a variety
of reasons, are not eligible for student finance from the government. The LRT
bursaries give learners the opportunity to continue their studies when they
might otherwise be prevented from doing so due to financial hardship. The LRT has awarded
bursaries to learners in higher and further education to help with
tuition fees, accommodation, travel & study.
"£750 provides five students with suitable clothing for job
interviews and support with travel costs until they receive their first wage"
